Job Supervisory Responsibilities: None

General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for operating X-ray and bone density equipment. He/she assists other technicians, radiologists and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Prepares patients for radiologic and bone density procedures. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards. Takes X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic and bone density equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area.

2. Maintains required records including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure all equipment meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.

3. Performs the following duties and testing procedures:
a. X rays
b. Heel Dexa, both in office and during Health fairs as needed (if or when trained).
c. Holter Monitoring (if or when trained)
d. In the future, will be trained as treadmill stress tests assistant.

4. Is in charge of scheduling and schedules the following:
a. Maintenance, calibration and care of X ray equipment.
b. Keep track of, and the maintenance of the equipment at all CPG locations.
c. Holter Monitors

5. Other duties and responsibilities:
a. Scan test results into patient charts in EMR.
b. Enter DEXA dates into health maintenance in EMR (when trained).
c. Verify appointments for next day appointments.
d. Verify insurance benefits, deductible, and co-pays for next day appointments.
e. Enter charges and payments for X rays
f. Prepare paperwork for tests scheduled for the next day.
g. Monitor supplies all equipment under his/her care.

6. Other duties as assigned by office manager. Any additional duties, and particularly covering the lab, must be authorized by the Office Manager.

7. Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to equipment, including determining equipment repairs.

8. Maintains all appropriate supplies and orders as necessary.

Education: Associates degree in radiological technology from accredited X-ray technician program.

Experience: One to three years of experience as X-ray technician, preferably in medical practice environment.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of X-ray (and possibly bone density procedures and protocols).
2. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray (and possibly bone density testing) including body mechanics and patient movement.
3. Knowledge of radiology (and possibly bone density equipment) including safety hazards common to radiology.

Skills:
1. Skill in positioning patients properly.
2. Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor.
3. Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures.
4. Skills in scheduling tests and procedures.
5. Good telephone and customer relations skills.

Abilities:
1. Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure required.
2. Ability to notice detail in drawings and differences in shapes and shadings.
3. Ability to apply written instructions and standardized work practices.

Equipment Operated: Radiological and bone density equipment used for medical diagnosis and treatment.

Work Environment: Imaging unit. Possible exposure to disease, radiation, and toxic chemicals in the course of performing the work.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Standing six to eight hours per day, walking, stooping, and bending. Requires ability to move equipment and transfer patients. Occasional stress when working with anxious patients.
